Beginner Foil Epee Saber Homeschool Golden Cardio-Fencing FAQ

The Denver Fencing Center offers more than 15 fencing classes a week in all three weapons for both youth and adult fencers. Our classes provide a great place to learn to fencing. Through these classes, we can take a student of any age who knows nothing about fencing and turn them into a good recreational or competitive fencer.

The costs for the classes are as follows:
One weekday class cost $60 for a six week session, plus $30 equipment rental fee(if necessary).

One Saturday class cost $60 for a four week session, plus $30 equipment rental fee(if necessary). The Saturday classes are longer than our weekday classes.

Two weekly classes costs $100 for a six week session, plus the $30 equipment rental fee(if necessary).

If you would like to visit our open fencing session, the cost is $10 per session (equipment rental is included, if you are currently taking a class).

Many of the fencers opt for our silver membership which cost $95 a month. This membership allow them to attend all classes and any open fencing sessions. Please read the Memberships section for more details.

If you would like to see the classes listed out by days of the week, check out the Schedule page.

Beginner Classes:

Description:

Beginner Fencing class teaches a student the fundamentals of how to fence. The student learns the rules, techniques, and terminology of the sport of fencing. The class covers footwork, blade drills, and fencing with electric scoring equipment.

The weekday fencing classes covers all three weapons of fencing: foil, epee, and saber in six week course.

Our weekend Ongoing Youth Beginner Foil teaches the basic to beginners while giving the slightly experienced students different skills to work on in a four week course. Many of the fencers travel long distances to attend these Saturday classes and that is why we follow this ongoing enrollment model.

Homeschool Classes

The Denver Fencing Center currently works with different groups of home school children to offer fencing as their P.E. class. Other home school children take class at the Center during normal after-school times.

If you like to set up a private class or would like us to teach fencing to your home school class or group, please contact us at: classesATdenverfencingcenter.com

Golden Classes

We offer many of the great fencing classes in Golden now! Click on Classes @ DFC - Golden for more details.

Cardio-Fencing

This class is designed for fencers and non-fencers to tone and strengthen the lower body through fencing actions.

The goal of this class is to improve your speed, endurance and muscle memory through a variety of quick, fun exercises that emphasize footwork, reflexes, and strength.

No fencing equipment or experience required for this course; students should wear lightweight exercise gear. Due to the intensity of the workout, sessions are 45 minutes in length. Start your week off on the right foot!

Cardio Fencing Class meets once a week on Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. . This class runs every Monday, except on major holidays. The drop-in cost is $10 for the class. The class is free for DFC members.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What do I wear to a fencing class?

Wear a comfortable cotton t-shirt or sweatshirt, a long pants (thick sweat pants are ideal) and athletic shoes. The Denver Fencing Center does have bathrooms to make clothing changes.

2. If the online registration doesn't work?

Just give us a call at (303)922-7288 or drop by the club. We will email the forms or give you the forms to fill out, take your payment, and you will be all set for your fencing class.

3. What is refund policy?

Denver Fencing Center will give a refund prior to the start of the class, if you are unable to attend. Once a class session has started, you will receive credits for later session.

If we have to cancel a class, we will provide a refund for the classes cancelled.

4. What is your class make-up policy?

If you miss a class, we allow you to make it up by taking a similar class during the same class session. We offer over 15 different classes along with 3 other classes in Golden. So if you miss a class in week two of the session, you can take two classes in week three. We make it very easy to catch back up with your fencing.

5. What is the equipment rental fee and what does it cover?

The equipment rental fee covers all of the fencing gear that you use during your class: mask, underarm, jacket, glove, chest protector (women), lame, body cord and a foil, epee, or saber. We charge $30 for every session of four to six week set of classes if you do not have this equipment. If you have the non-electric fencing equipment: mask, jacket, glove, underarm, chest protector (women), then we will drop the fee to $15. Nearly all beginners will need to rent equipment, while experienced fencers usually have some sub-set of equipment.

6. What does it cost to get all of the equipment used in the class?

The equipment, depending on the weapon, will run from $250 to $400. We rent the equipment so people can try out the sport for a significant amount of time before outlaying the investment. We find that many parents appreciate the option of renting till their child is 100% vested in the sport.

7. Do you sell equipment? Will you help me order? Is is cheaper through you or online?

Yes, we usually keep parts to build a practice/electric foil or epee along with many repair parts. Anything else, we have to order in. We will certainly help you size your equipment and we will order in the equipment for you if you would like.

The cost of the equipment is about the same. We get a little of a volume discount, but we have to charge you Denver Sales Tax. So online ordering vs. DFC retail ends up being roughly the same price.
